Barra da Lagoa, Lagoa da Conceição

I've updated the photo album with pictures from our boating trip. Yesterday we took dad's inflatable to Barra da Lagoa and boated our way up the river to Lagoa da Conceição (the big lake in the middle of the island of Santa Catarina, where most of the city of Florianópolis is located). This lake is a very popular site for windsurfing and kitesurfing, too.

I made it to Campinas alright.. after a long and painful all-night bus journey. Gosh, how relieved am I to be here!
Packing made me realize how sick and tired I am of moving and living out of a suitcase.. I find relief in the fact that, starting now, each move gets me closer to the end of my nomad life (well at least for a few years).
I am heading to my dad's tomorrow, to spend a couple of weeks, enjoy the beach and say goodbye before heading back to the U.S. in January. Will post soon from sunny Florianópolis!!

I just mentioned Harold McGee's new column on the NYT... and when I logged into Blogger Beta today, I realized I wasn't the only one. On Blogger Beta homepage there's BloggerBuzz, where the developers of Blogger post whatever they feel like. Their latest post is exactly about Harold McGee and his blog - which I had no idea existed. News for Curious Cooks is (sure enough) packed with interesting stuff to read, especially for us scientists who also like food (and who doesn't like food?).

Trancoso, BA

Forgive my long silence: I have been back to 7L since Monday, but have been swamped with work all week! Next week IS MY LAST in 7L, and I have a lot of things to wrap up at work. Gosh, I can hardly believe I am leaving...

So while I am wrapping up around here I don't think I'll be posting much, but in the meantime, I want to share a photo with you all. This is just a little sample of the place where I was (click on the photo!):

This magical place is called Trancoso and is in the state of Bahia (I added it to the map, check it out). There, I spent the best week of the year of 2006, with a VERY special someone (!!!!). This is all for now, but there is more to come... in the meantime, suffice to say I am as happy as a clam :)
